I live in Tennessee. It is a beautiful state - mountains and wildlife abound. Each morning during the school year, I travel a few miles to Georgia to the school I teach in. The view as I travel is of Lookout Mountain and the surrounding hills. Awesome way to start the morning.
When I told my brother about the challenge, we started brainstorming about things I could add to the Tennessee tile. Our discussion turned to North Carolina, the place where we were born and grew up. Tennessee is my "now" home, but North Carolina is my home of memories. It is vacations with family, playing in the backyard, all those wonderful childhood things. So I changed my mind and decided to do NC.
On my ZIA you should be able to find lots of NC things - Grandfather's Mtn. in the Smokies, the influence of the Cherokee and Scottish people in the hills, famous lighthouses, the NC Tarheels, fields of wildflowers, the pines, the rivers, the state flower - the dogwood, and the Outerbanks. Can you see them? This was a lot of fun to do! I plan on doing the Tennessee tile, but wanted to get this one posted now, in case I don't finish the other one.

Hi Caty, yes i can see it, your past!
ReplyDeleteI feel also some homesickness in it!
I do understand that! Well done a real zentangle or ZIA.
so absolutely gorgeous! :)
ReplyDeleteIt made my day to hear from you! How is it going? Any job word yet? I have you in my prayers.
DeleteI am alright. No job yet, sadly, but still looking. I've officially applied to 120 schools! Yikes. Thank you for your prayers...they are much needed and appreciated. I hope you are well, and surviving this insane heat!
DeleteThis is a masterpiece. I did live in the Ozarks for a while and I so miss the dogwood and so I must say....that is my favorite part and you did such a good job of it. To incorporate so many things into this challenge is so inspiring! I can't wait to see Tennessee but for right now I am absolutely content to gaze upon North Carolina!
ReplyDeleteThis is fantastic! You did such a great job with this:)
ReplyDeleteThis tile is stunning. I love your dogwood, one of my favorite flowers for their shape and beauty. I see the mountains too, and the lighthouses, and I love that you sketched your state in the center. I did something similar with my state outline also. Your story about the home of your childhood is touching. Thanks for sharing with all of us. Isn't this the most wonderful challenge ever. I feel like I'm starting to know more about the artists I so admire.
ReplyDeleteOh, how beautiful!!! You have included so many things so successfully!! Love the dogwoods! They do grow in the Ozark area of Arkansas and Missouri...so wonderful to see what you have done...all these tiles make me really appreciate what a wonderful world we live in!!
ReplyDeleteYou have done such an amazing job of representing your home, Tennessee. This is beautiful. I have never spent any time in Tennessee but this lovely representation makes me want to come 'round and sit a spell.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful zia! Also nice to learn more about other countries. Especially the USA and Canada, so far away from small Holland where I live.

I have spent all of my 31 years in North Carolina. You have captured the essence of the state so beautifully! I love it!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful, I also live in North Carolina, you did it very well, with the Mountains on one side and the sea on the other.... Thanks
ReplyDeleteThis is so cool! I love the over and under state map. And each of the items representing your "home" state. I love the band with the teepees! I clicked to enlarge so that I could really see all your fine work.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love how you put your state in there. This is just excellent!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely ZIA. Your dogwood is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWhat a discussion a challenge can bring ;)
ReplyDeleteLove the tile!
Wow, awesome job!
