Everyone has tangles they "overdo". Ones they love to use and seem to show up on everything - those "go to" tangles we love. I have several and they seem to change every now and then. I will find myself doing lots of paradox, then it seems verve has taken over. Then there are those tangles we enjoy, but avoid. Those I have put in my tangle organizer, and then moved rapidly on to sunnier skies! When I first saw "assunta", I thought how pretty. I put it in the organizer and decided to leave it alone. Those little dashes drove me nuts. I am by nature a perfectionist and they weren't even and they didn't line up.
My next big tangle to avoid was "mooka". Now this is one I really wanted to like - it's big swoopy lines were beautiful. I love the flow of one line moving gracefully around the page. I watched the video, put it in my organizer and then decided to admire it on other people's pages. I just couldn't do it.
So now enter the duo tangle challenge by Diva this week. What should she choose but assunta and mooka!! Yuck! I don't want to miss a challenge (I am also obsessive), but what on earth can I do to make these two tangles work for me? Look at the mooka video again for starters. That helped . . . some. Not much. Then I pulled out the sketch pad to play around hoping for something. I discovered that mooka would fit nicely in an overly large assunta. So that is where I started. After that I drew some assunta around the outside, because I had to.
The second tile was just playing around some more. Again I added some assunta - because I had to. I have discovered I am enjoying playing with mooka and probably will use it from time to time. I also now have two tiles in my stack with assunta on them, . . . and that's probably all I will ever have.
Have a great week. Oh and Diva, I really "hate" the tangles verve, keeko and paradox if you want to make us use those. Maybe. Happy tangling!
Cathy you are very naughty! (Laura, I "hate" Flux and Buttercup, just in case you want to punish us a bit more lol!)
ReplyDeleteBut seriously Cathy, you really are too hard on yourself! These two tiles are really sweet and pretty!
I had the same feeling when I saw this weeks challenge, but like you I made myself do it and am glad I did (I think I actually learned something). I love both your tiles, especially the second one, it's so light and airy.
ReplyDeleteThese are sweet and lively. Mooka is so much fun, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteTrying to understand and put yoyr story in the google translator. As a dutchy i think you find it a bit difficult to combine those 2. Tomorrow it is my diva day...so perhaps i realy understand your struggle. For now, great job.
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful. I especially like the first one. No one will ever know about your struggles to "organize" these two. It looks like you had a plan all along. (Or perhaps your muse kicked in?)
ReplyDeleteLovely, reminds of little violets.
ReplyDeletewow...mooka in assunta...fantastic!
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree...these are tough ones...especially the Assunta...I am really struggling with it...but you have done wonderful creative tiles!! Great!
ReplyDeletethese look great. the first tile is my fave - mooka looks great inside the large assunta. I definitely have go-to patterns, too - I love that these challenges push me in directions I probably wouldn't go (and sometimes never will again!)
ReplyDeleteI had to delay commenting because I was laughing so hard! Your little post about your problems with these two tangles really tickled my funny bones. I think you did a wonderful job on two tangles you really don't like. My favorite is your first one; although the second one is wonderful tool. I hated assunda but loved mooka, but I persevered and did some stuff that featured both of them anyway. So did you. Good for us! Leaving our comfort zone is good for us. But your writing about it was as good as your art. I'm still giggling.
ReplyDeleteThe shadow work is great again! Love your tangles!
ReplyDeleteThese really do look beautiful! After reading your post, I think perhaps I'll stop avoiding the challenge this week (I keep telling myself I'm too busy, but let's face it, I'm a teacher on summer holidays who has cats instead of kids!) and give it a go tomorrow....
ReplyDeleteYou did awesome. I had no clue what assunta was, when I saw it I was like nope, not doing this week's challenge. However, I had already missed last weeks, so I sucked it up. I love doing mooka. Assunta may never get done by me again. Wasn't my favorite to do at all.
